The Fan & Cable Swingcoat was the first swingocat design I created, selling first as only the garment and now as knitting kits too. These designs rely on a top quality yarn with extra twist, as my Signatur 8ply Australian Wool. The knitting kit includes the yarn, knitting instructions with both graphed and written stitch pattern plus buttons , see below for options according to neck band styles.
Sleeve options: The original pattern has a generous armhole depth and sleeve width of 56cm/22". I have added two new sleeve options into the pattern: The slim sleeve width 50cm/20" this will reduce the chest size slightly. The Dolman sleeve works from slim to wide with a sleeve width 46cm/18" and will not reduce the chest as the slim sleeve.
Buttons: Original design has Triangle buttons with the buttonhole worked into the cable band. The latest buttonband option is into a Double Moss band of 8sts, this requires square handmade buttons. Note the button bands are knitted as one with the fronts of the garment.
Bobble size: You'll see the image of the cream garment, the bobbles are larger than the bobbles on the Steel garment with the DM band. Every body's bobbles will be a slightly different size. These are both 3 stitch bobbles over 3 rows.
Tension: The sleeves are knitted first, this allows you to double check your tension and become familiar with the stitch pattern. The Sleeve instruction includes a graph and row by row instructions for the Fan and Bobble stitch pattern and cables. The instructions for the body of the garment are supported by diagrams to track length and decrease shaping into the fronts and back. Decrease shaping is worked into each panel adjacent to the cable, the Fan and Bobble pattern remains a constant number of stitches and rows, whilst the number of stitches before and after the Fan decreases hem to shoulder.
