The Wicked Hat was inspired by the stage play, which had fantastic costumes, some wonderful A-symmetric styles. This pattern is written in 3 sizes, and can be knitted in 8ply/DK or 10ply/Aran weight. The knitting kit includes 100g of yarn and the price of the kit varies according to the yarn you select. ($25 to $40) The 8ply/ DK yarn knits as Small, Med & Large sizes, with the 10ply/Aran weight the small size knits as a medium size and Medium as a Large size. To knit the Large = extra large an additional 50g will be required and not included in the kit.
The hat is knitted quite firmly: Azteca & Verve
Azteca: 12ply 53% Wool & 43% Acrylic on 4.5mm needles rib on 3.75mm.
Verve: 12ply 7-% Wool & 30% Acrylic on 4.5mm needles rib on 3.75mm.
Wool Fleck 8ply/ DK on 4mm needles and rib on 3.25mm.
The pattern allows you to knit either in the round or flat on straight needles, the flat requires a seam. The hat is finished with a plait, which hides the seam if you knit the flat version. The plait can be worn to either the front or side of the hat, as the sides are quite tall and when cold, this hat pulls down beautifully over your ears!
There are 2 style options: the main image in Mustard Fleck has the sides of the hat in Reverse st-st (with Purl to the Right Side of the knitting). The Blue hat has the sides of the hat in st-st (knit as the RS of the knitting). The Mustard hat shows how it folds out when in R.st-st, and with the Blue hat the sides fold inwards.
